What do we eat in 2020?

Something we all have in common at Story is our passion for great food, and with a new year around the corner we are thinking a lot about what we might have on our plates in the near future. We decided to have a chat with our favourite foodie Rebecca Brage, the culinary genius behind the popular Instagram account @stockholmfood.

Hi Rebecca! We’re heading towards a new decade, that’s crazy! What trend within food and dining should we just leave behind in the 2010s?

All you can eat buffets. It feels outdated and it’s bad for the environment. Instead we will hopefully start paying for the weight of our food or we will eat more à la carte.

What do we eat in 2020? Any certain ingredients or flavours that will be in the spotlight?

I think and I hope that we will se more contemporary interpretations of classic Swedish dishes. Instead of meatballs and mash we’ll see a meatfree version etc. The vegetarian trend will continue to grow.

Which new restaurants are you looking forward to in 2020?

Sayans new restaurant at Berns and Tommy Myllymäki’s new fine dining experience at Djurgården.

What would you never order?

I would never order snails! I get chills just thinking about it.

Are medium-sized dishes still trendy? What could be the next big thing?

Haha, indeed they are! But I think that half of the people that are eating out are longing for a traditional three course meal. The next big thing, hm… Maybe a huge plate for everyone to share? That would be something!

Where should one travel for a true culinary experience?

LA, Copenhagen and Italy are three of my current favourites. Copenhagen is perfect since it’s so close, I go there a couple of times every year for inspiration.

If you could wish for anything to happen on the foodie scene of Stockholm - what would it be?

That the food and wine festival that me and my husband Joakim have planned together with Trädgården will be a huge success! We have created something that we would go to and that we’ve felt is missing in Stockholm. See you there on May 16 and September 12!
